Barbed Pop up exhibition at NEO Bankside: Designs for Exterior Living

Book the date! The 19th September will see the start of a brand new adventure for Barbed: the opening of a Pop Up Shop on the South Bank of the Thames in NEO Bankside.

Discovering NEO Bankside

NEO Bankside is a recently finished apartment complex on London's South Bank, just behind the Tate Modern. The award-winning residential development, designed by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and developed by Native Land and Grosvenor, offers an open space with a structural industrial feel that is just perfect for our love of design - the perfect canvas for mixing furniture and art like which is what we will present in the Barbed Pop-up Shop. Our predecessors in April and May were Oscars Interiors with a pop-up exhibition featuring a collection of fine English and European furniture which was well worth a look.

The Barbed Pop-up Shop

Our pop-up shop is meant to be both a shop and an exhibition in itself. This space will feel like a design-led gallery, with furniture complimented by art and sculpture. We are specialists in outdoor furniture, but as we've proven in past blog articles, our garden furniture can fit perfectly indoors, and this pop-up exhibition will show just that. Our tagline: “Designs for exterior living.”

Who will feature in our pop-up exhibition?

Mixing artwork and furniture is already what we do in our showroom so it's our pleasure to present NEO visitors with a display of both sculptures and furniture. Some of our brands will be there, such as:

Fermob…

Fermob logoFermob, our favourite French outdoor furniture manufacturer with its aluminium chairs and tables is an obvious choice and will fit perfectly in the NEO gallery. From Luxembourg to Costa, we will prove once more that Fermob furniture adapts to every indoor and outdoor space!

Serralunga…

Serralunga logoItalian designers Serralunga show their passion for innovation in all their inventive furnishings. They not only push the boundaries of design with the scale and perspective of their pieces, but also the use of materials and technologies to create these aesthetics. The iconic “Missed Trees” and curvaceous New Wave sculptures are examples of this which all have in common an overscaled and definitive beauty. From the simple Cone and Miss Jane to the more sophisticated Lady Jane lamp, Serralunga will amaze you with their boundless creativity and innovation. Our pop up exhibition will be the perfect place to discover Serralunga sculptural pots and illuminated pieces.

Ester & Erik…

Finally, the Danish candles will be a perfect addition to the furniture and artwork displayed, with their own distinctive shape. Available in so many different colours, the Ester & Erik candles being presented include the newest autumnal colours recently added to the Ester & Erik colour palette.

… and some amazing local artisans!

The Multiple Store logoWe will exhibit some of our favourite artwork, from Japanese ceramic artist MariRuth Oda , the artist who designed the sitable sculptures, to Ruth Moilliet with her flower and nature inspired sculptures and presses. Also presented are some of the creations by Yasemen Hussein; a master in sculpting metals such as her copper feathers and etched panels made of concrete. Wendy Hoare brings us some of her beautifully crafted ceramic vessels along with some hand-picked limited edition pieces in mixed media from the Multiple Store.

Barbed Pop-Up Shop - "Designs for exterior living" will take place from the 19th September to the end of October so do come and see us on the South Bank. For updates on the pop-up exhibition and on the outdoor furniture world, join us on Twitter, Facebook or Google+.
