Cheering the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race this Sunday
A legendary race
We can't live in Barnes without celebrating the world-famous institution that is the Oxbridge Boat Race. The Cambridge and Oxford rowing teams will face each other on the River Thames, as they have done since 1829, and annually since 1856 except for the World Wars. Cambridge has won 81 times and Oxford 76 times. Will Oxford be victor this year or will the gap between England’s top universities widen?
The boat race: what you need to know
The race is planned for Sunday 31st March at 4.30pm, falling on Easter Day. The course starts in Putney and ends in Mortlake, 6.8 km (4 miles 374 yards) away - this course has been used since 1845. Warm up before the big show with the reserve crew race, a great introduction to the Boat Race. Check out the Boat Race timetable, come to our shop and get a folding chair like our Bistro folding chairs, grab something to eat and go enjoy the race!
Stay in the festive spirit
Our store will be open for special extended hours on Sunday from 10am until 5.30pm so you can enjoy the boat race and come and see us either before or after the show. Stay in the festive spirit after cheering up your favourite rowing team and start now preparing for a wonderful summer. We’re sure it’s on its way! We have great designer outdoor furniture, including garden hoses and summer must-haves: sunshades and parasols. Worst case scenario, your parasols will make great giant umbrellas!
