Zoning in your garden

Zoning in your garden

What is zoning?

Zoning is a recent trend in the interior design world, and means organising your space according to use or function. We're not talking about US planning permission laws, but the shape and flow of the space you live in.

Nowadays with big indoor spaces and lofts, rooms are used for lots of different things. Furniture is one way to divide a room according to the use you want to make of it. The best example of it is the open plan kitchen, where a bar generally separates the cooking area from the eating area.

The garden is, or should be, an extension of your home. It’s a second home which reflects your personality and gives you more freedom than your house to play around with. It’s sweet to be able to acquire the furniture that you like, without worrying about how to make it fit between four walls - if it even gets through the door in the first place! Cane-Line furniture already looks like it could be indoor furniture, so let’s look at how zoning can make the most of your outdoor area.

The perfect outdoor room

Imagination is your best ally when it comes to zoning and organising your outdoor space, just like your indoor area. However we are more than happy to give you a hand with our showroom. The best way is to come and see for yourself in our store how our pieces of furniture fit together. But if you live too far from Barnes and the London area our on-line showroom is great to get into the right mood.

The first thing to ask yourself is: what do I want to use my garden for? Do you want a study, a second living room with much more light than your indoor one, a beer garden, a dining area, an outdoor kitchen (Dancook’s firepit is great for a good barbecue), a bedroom for relaxation - the sunny weather will come back, eventually, we might as well be ready for it!

It’s all up to you, and we make sure we stock outdoor furniture that can meet your needs, even if you don’t know yet what you want. That’s what a showroom is for, right? It allows you to get a feeling of what appeals to you most and gives you ideas so you can create something that’s just like you.

Introducing Gandia Blasco: comfort, style and functionality

This week we’d like to introduce you to Gandia Blasco, a Spanish company that started manufacturing blankets and later became famous for their exclusive, innovative carpets and rugs. They started manufacturing outdoor furniture in the 1990s following the company’s philosophy: making comfortable, functional and highly aesthetic furniture. Sounds great for a bedroom, don’t you think?

Comfort is what we are all looking for, especially in a bedroom. This is why Gandia Blasco pops into mind when we mention an outdoor lounge.

The Gandia Blasco Daybed is really an outdoor bed, a canopy bed even, with a roof on top of your head to protect you against sun or drizzle, and shutters to give you just the right amount of privacy you wish for. With dimensions of 200 x 200 x 200cm you have the perfect king size bed, with four reclining positions for increased comfort.

Gandia Blasco furniture is like pieces of art: most of them are framed, so you can really create a personal space in your garden.

The Al Fresco sofa is perfect against the rain, the sun, and even nosey neighbours, with its plastic canvas and water-repellent fabric shutters. It’s also great for kids who can play hide and seek and hide under it - it stands on an elevated platform - or inside the space created when the blinds are closed. Comfortable throw cushions are also provided with the Al Fresco Sofa. In terms of colours, the Gandia Blasco sofa comes in white and bronze, just like the Gandia Blasco Daybed.

Zoning with Gandia Blasco and Cane-Line

You have two ways of zoning: you either find furniture you love and arrange your garden around it, or you decide what you want to do with your outdoor space and you furnish it accordingly.

Try and picture yourself in your garden and let your imagination run loose: the sun is high in the sky, your partner is taking a nap in the Gandia Blasco Daybed and you don’t want to wake him or her up. You get your Gandia Blasco parasol out, a nice colourful parasol made of stainless steel with phenolic plate stripes, allowing for a different style and resistance against the wind. You’ve decided to enjoy the sun, so you get down on a lounger such as the elegant Cane-Line Escape Sunbed or the adaptable Cane-Line Presley Sunbed, with wheels to move around more easily…
