Fred Butler’s ‘Harmonic in Space’ at the NOW Gallery

Those who appreciate the power of wellbeing and mindfulness are sure to be interested in the design exhibition that’s currently taking place at Greenwich Peninsula’s NOW Gallery in south-east London.

Harmonics in Space is a colourful exhibition by Fred Butler, and it’s currently providing some much-needed relief from the cold weather that has gripped London in recent weeks, helping to transport visitors into the lightness of spring. To achieve this, Harmonics in Space have transformed the Greenwich Peninsula NOW Gallery into a place of complete wellbeing, where the energy of chromotherapy is explored, allowing people to find the joy in light and colour.

The fascinating exhibition will be running every day until April 29th 2018, leaving plenty of time for everyone to pay a visit and discover a little more about the conscious and unconscious levels of the psyche.

Entrance is completely free, although due to popularity, each day is ticketed.
You can book your free ticket over at Eventbrite by simply searching for the Harmonic in Space event.

Discover more about the conscious and unconscious levels of the psyche

One of the key features of the exhibition is ‘healing spheres’, which is a collection of three-dimensional sculptures that invite you to submerge your head inside so that you can experience a range of colourful lights. It’s claimed that the benefit of this type of light and colour therapy enables an interplay between both the conscious and unconscious levels of the psyche, which stimulates the imagination and releases creativity.

Tap into the awareness of being alive

The sculptures at Harmonics in Space also encourage people to take a step back from everyday life, control their breathing and tap into the awareness of being alive. This stems from Fred’s strong interest in wellbeing, which led her to study Rudolf Laban’s theory of Harmonics in Space, which suggests the body is made up of polyhedral shapes – with the smallest being a tetrahedron in the centre of the body. Fred explains that daily deskwork and hunching over electronic devices cause the tetrahedron to become blocked, but the experiences at the exhibition can help battle against this.

At the core of the design is Fred Butler’s belief that shape and colour has a profound affect on moods, emotions and overall daily life. She states that we need a balance of all the colour vibrations in sunlight to nourish us energetically, and colour is intrinsic to her practice. She hopes that by using it as a tool throughout the exhibition she will be able to attract, inspire and excite a new audience at London’s NOW Gallery.

Sound holds an important role for the exhibition

In keeping with the musical title and sensory theme, sound is also a very important part of the exhibition. Fred has always placed great importance on soundtracks, from live presentations at London Fashion Week and fashion films made with Red Bull Studios, and this installation at NOW Gallery is no different. Beats wireless headphones are available to visitors, playing unique, uplifting music during their journey around the exhibition.
