Add splashes of colour to your garden

Add splashes of colour to your garden

Do you know what your favourite colour is? If you’re like us, you find it difficult playing the what’s-your-favourite-colour game!

Perhaps it all depends. Are the colours you like to wear the same as the colours you like to decorate your house with? Are they the same colours you like to see in your garden?

If you do struggle to pinpoint a specific favourite colour, fret not, a garden is the perfect canvas to mix and match a variety of different colours, and it’s easy to make quick changes depending on things such as your mood, or the current season. The only way to achieve this is by being proactive. You could consider things like adding or changing your collection of colourful flowers, introducing colourful garden furniture, alternating your outdoor accessories or using colourful shades on surrounding features, such as painting a garden shed or surrounding fencing.

Spots of one colour can create a cohesive feel in the garden

If you are lucky enough to be able to zone in on a specific favourite colour, you could try introducing spots of it to help create drama and interest within your garden. The recurring colour is sure to draw the eyes across the landscape and provide your outdoor space with a cohesive feel, giving you an opportunity to pair nature with furniture through a smart colour selection.

Keep your garden fresh by adjusting the colour scheme

You can also keep things both interesting and exciting by adjusting the colour scheme in your garden from season to season. Changing the colour of flowers, or the planters that you proudly showcase them with, along with a change of garden accessories or furniture cushions can make things interesting. Even alternating the tableware you use when dining al fresco in the spring or summer will ensure you’re consistently treated to new vibes throughout the seasons. It’s worth considering pink, purple, or blues in the spring, as these are the shades of blooming bulbs this time of the year. Red and pinks blossom in the hot summer months, and golden, orange, or red tones are perfect in autumn.

Bright colours attract the attention

Bright colours such as bold shades of red, orange and yellow tend to catch the eye first, so use these as focal points. Bright colours are also perfect for directing attention away from objects you’d prefer people didn’t notice. For example, add a splash of colour to an area of your garden that’s still awaiting a little DIY, and divert the attention of your guests.

Have fun by sticking to a small colour palette

Picking a colour palette that contains just a small number of different colours can create a lot of interest in the garden, and it can be great fun picking garden benches and shrubs that work in unison, sticking to the plan. By limiting the available colours, each one has more impact and can really pull your garden together into a beautiful display.
